Welcome to DC Cares

Thank you for your interest in the DC Cares Assistance Program. This program is intended to provide financial support for DC residents experiencing economic hardship due to the Coronavirus pandemic but have been excluded from Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).

For security reasons, the website has certain system limitations. When filling out the application form please:
- Open a new browser window before you start your application.
- Finish your application within 15 minutes or else it may time out.
- Do NOT use the “back” button to return to previous pages. This will end your application session.

Applicants who are approved will receive a one-time payment of $1,000.
To qualify for DC Cares, you must be an adult who lives in Washington, DC AND be part of one of the following categories:

  1. You have been released from incarceration or detention during the coronavirus pandemic (on or after March 11, 2020)  AND/OR are you residing in a Halfway House, Transitional Housing or Home-Confinement;


  2. You are an immigrant without work authorization AND have experienced income loss during the pandemic;


  3. You work for cash or in the informal economy (for example - street vending, domestic work, day labor) AND you have experienced income loss during the pandemic.

Individuals who received financial assistance through the DC Cares program in the past are NOT eligible to apply again. However, if someone else in your household qualifies, please encourage them to apply. Please find our full guide to program eligibility here DC Cares Eligibility Guide .
As part of the application, you will be asked to provide documentation that shows 1) your identity, 2) that you live in Washington, DC, and 3) that you are eligible for DC Cares for one of the reasons above. It will be helpful to have a photo or scan of your documents available and ready to upload at the time of your application.

If you don’t have documents available right now, you can still submit your application and someone from the DC Cares team will follow up. However, it is highly encouraged to upload documents if you can – this will help the DC Cares team to process your application faster.
Your information will be recorded in the DC Cares database and will be shared only with authorized personnel for purposes of determining eligibility and approval for DC Cares unless otherwise authorized by you.
